Prior to treatment, we will evaluate your medical history in order to better understand your overall health. We will conduct a complete examination of your eyes to determine the most effective injections sites and we will discuss any issues or concerns that you may have.
On the day of treatment, the areas to be treated will be marked and digital photographs will be taken so that the amount of improvement can be determined after the procedure. Anesthesia is not necessary because the procedure is virtually painless and you will feel just a very small sting during the injections. Though patients may experience some slight bruising around the injection site after treatment, this quickly fades and all normal activities may be resumed immediately. Other possible side effects that may occur after treatment can include temporary weakness of nearby muscles and, in rare cases, eyelid droop. If these side effects occur, they are temporary because BOTOX® Cosmetic is completely reversible.
The results of BOTOX® Cosmetic are not permanent. In order to maintain the effect, the procedure may need to be repeated two to three times per year. However, research has suggested that long-term use of BOTOX® Cosmetic can lead to a longer duration of each treatment. The results may not be as dramatic for patients over the age of sixty-five as they would be for younger patients. While BOTOX® Cosmetic can treat expression lines, it cannot improve sagging skin caused by aging.
