Artefill is the first non-resorbable injectable filler providing a permanent solution for the correction of wrinkles. As a non-resorbable filler, Artefill is essentially permanent as it is not eventually absorbed by the body like other types of fillers. Artefill is currently FDA-approved for the correction of nasolabial folds, also known as smile lines.
Artefill is comprised of 20% tiny, smooth particles known as polymethyl methacrylate microspheres and 80% purified bovine collagen gel with 0.3% lidocaine. Artefill can correct current wrinkles and help to prevent further wrinkling. Dr. Abergel performs the Artefill injection in his office using an ultra-fine needle. The procedure is simple and quick and patients are able to immediately return to work and other normal activities. As with most injectable fillers, some redness and swelling may occur though these side effects typically resolve within a few days. Though results are immediately visible, continued improvement can occur over the course of several months. Some patients may require one or two touch-up injections spaced at least two weeks apart for the desired result to be achieved.
