Laser Resurfacing
Hi Dr. Abergel,
For a long time I have been contemplating doing some procedures to make my face appear younger. I am 52 years old and although I have smooth skin, I also have jowls, a double chin, a frown line between my eyebrows, some wrinkling on my forehead, some pigmentation (freckles and a large spot on my cheek).
I should mention that I am a diabetic and take medication for type 2 diabetes, as well as hypertension and cholesterol lowering drugs. My last check up was very good - everything is well under control.
My questions are: (1) Am I a candidate for any procedure? (2) I'm sure that if I'm a candidate, I would need several types of procedures -- would they all be done at the same time? (3) I am like everyone else and don't like pain. How painful are any of the procedures? (4) What type of procedure do you use for jowls, double chin? (5) What is the recovery time?
Thank you.
Answer
Hi,
I’m happy to hear that you have your diabetes, hypertension and cholesterol under control. The procedures that I specialize in are minimally invasive and virtually painless. This allows me to perform a combination of treatments at the same with minimal discomfort. Recovery time can be anywhere from a couple of hours to about a week but this is all dependent on the exact procedure. It’s important for me to do a one on one assessment to fully determine which procedures are appropriate for you and offer you ideal results. Please call my office to arrange a consultation.
I look forward to meeting you!
Dr. A.

Laser Resurfacing
Hello,
I have suffered from acne scars for over 6 years.
- I've heard that TotalFx will work best on acne scars. Do you offer TotalFx?
- I'm a 23-year-old male asian. Will it work on my skin?
Thank you very much.
Regards,
AnswerHi~ The Active FX laser offers excellent improvement for acne scars however it is unfortunately not appropriate for Asian skin. There are other options to improve acne scars though. Restylane or Juvederm can be injected to fill the scars and give a smoother appearance.

Laser Resurfacing
I saw you about 10 years ago for laser resurfacing with CO2. I have some new scars that are depressed and would like to know if you also have the hand piece for the Deep FX. I would like to have both Deep + Active fx treatment.

AnswerHi David,
Welcome back! The Active FX Laser combined with a special serum that stimulates collagen production would be a good treatment for your skin. I tailor the strength of the Active FX Laser to the specific needs of the patient. Please call my office for an appointment so I can do a complete assessment.

Laser Resurfacing
Hi Dr. Abergel,
Is laser resurfacing the same as lifestyle lift?
Thanks.
Tyrene
AnswerHi,
I do not perform the Lifestyle Lift and unfortunately am unable to compare it to Laser Resurfacing. If you are looking for a treatment that tightens the skin as well as addresses wrinkles and pigmentation, I would recommend the Ultra Pulse Fractional CO2 laser. If you have additional questions, please call my office to schedule a one on one assessment so we can discuss which treatment is appropriate for you.
